CBD and Pain Relief
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical found naturally in Cannabis, generally known as marijuana and hemp plants. The natural compound will not intoxicate you since it doesn't produce the same psychotropic effects as its cannabinoid sibling, tetrahydrocannabinol. CBD can be used for a medical condition and the majority are treating chronic pain, joint pain, arthritis, anxiety etc.
EXPLANATION
Tropical CBD products, especially CBD oil, can be used to manage symptoms of pain, inflammation, and overall discomfort related to a variety of health conditions. CBD creates anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects that are helpful for pain management with literally no side effects. The use of cannabis for pain relief comes from ancient China. It is believed that CBD oil helps ease chronic pain in part by reducing inflammation. CBD oils come from industrial hemp which usually has a higher CBD content than marijuana. Makers of CBD oil usually use different methods to extract the compound and then extracted compound is added to a carrier oil for the called CBD oil. CBD oil comes from different strengths and people use it in various ways.
CBD can dissolve in fats. This dissolution helps it to be carried across the blood-brain barrier where it can have a broad range of positive effects on pain. CBD reduces pain signals as it moderates each pain and the sensation of pain. CBD module is the immune response by increasing it as it decreases the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inhibits the proliferation of T cells that are indicated in autoimmune and systemic inflammatory disorders. It reduces inflammation by decreasing oxidative stress and systemic inflammation by acting as an antioxidant. It can improve mood and sleep as it reduces chronic stress which can disrupt your daily life, relationships, walk and mental health. People facing anxiety, depression, insomnia and fatigue, all common with chronic pain, CBD may help them relax or get the restful sleep needed.
Some CBD products may be more suitable for older adults. The positive effects that are brought by using CBD can be particularly accepting to seniors. Many old age people are not familiar with how medical cannabis could enrich their quality of life and how the stereotypical marijuana user and use has improved. Because CBD is extracted from the marijuana plant, seniors can benefit from this as the medical benefits afforded by the extract without the head or body sensation often related to marijuana. Additionally, seniors have the option of delivering CBD to their bodies in forms more familiar, rather than inhaling smoke. CBD is an oil extract and therefore can be added to things like topical gels, tinctures and edible products.
EVIDENCE
Research-based on CBD products and pain management has been very promising. CBD can be used as an alternative for all those people who have chronic pain and rely on medication such as opioids that can be habit-forming and cause more side effects. CBD is shown to be anti-inflammatory giving it the potential to reduce joint pain associated with arthritis. It is antiemetic which helps in decreasing vomiting and nausea associated with cancer treatment. CBD is an antipsychotic which eases the symptoms of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. A review of 2018 that looked over the studies between 1975 - 2018, assessed how well CBD works to relieve chronic pain. It examined various types of people suffering from cancer pain, neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia. The researchers concluded that CBD was effective in overall pain management and didn’t cause any negative side effects.
A study conducted in 2016, looked at the use of CBD in rats for arthritis. Researchers applied CBD gel to rats for four days in a row. It was noted that CBD oil helped reduce inflammation and overall pain in rats affected joints. There were no obvious side effects noted. Some people with cancer also use CBD. Several researches conducted on mice have shown that CBD can be effective on cancer and lead to shrinking of cancerous tumors. In the case of humans, CBD can play the role of managing pain related to cancer and cancer treatment.
The National Cancer Institute has pointed to CBD as a possible option for reducing chemotherapy side-effects such as pain, vomiting, and lack of appetite. A study conducted on cancer-related pain in 2010 shows subjects receiving oral sprays of a combination THC – CBD extract.
Further, in 2013, there were similar findings and many researchers believe that CBD can be a good cure for pain management. People with cluster headaches are found to be in pain relief with the combination of CBD and THC compound, applicable only if they have a childhood history of migraine. CBD also works for muscle spasms. Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune condition that affects the entire body through the nerves and brain.
Muscle spasm is one of the most common symptoms of multiple sclerosis. The spasms can be very strong and cause constant pain in some people. A report found that short-term use of CBD oil could reduce the levels of muscle spasms a person can feel. Yet the results are modest but many people reported a reduction in symptoms.
Along with pain relief CBD currently has a range of other promising possibilities. It includes:
- helping people quit smoking
- managing drug withdrawal
- treating seizures and Epilepsy
- treating anxiety
- Reducing some effects of Alzheimer disease
- reducing antipsychotic effects for people with schizophrenia
- combating type one diabetes and cancer

CBD oil does show promise as a treatment of pain. Some scientific evidence suggests that it can help people manage chronic pain in various contexts. Researchers believe that CBD has a lot of potential as a product. It is specially beneficial due to its lack of intoxicating effects and a possible lower potential for side effects that many other pain medications do possess. However, people should discuss CBD oil with the doctors if they are considering using it for the first time.
